Welcome to Evan Reviews Games Matt Paid For! This is part one of a three part series! (at least three, maybe more!)

The first game in this series is Hydrophobia: Prophecy, which I got a chance to play last night after the game was gifted to me for Double Prizemas.
The game is sort of a 3d platformer like Tomb Raider, with a hint of 3d fantasy adventure games like Dreamfall. You play as a lady who is an engineer on a ship that gets attacked by terrorists and is slowly sinking.

Basically, the technology of the game is the impressive part – it’s the first time ever a fluid dynamics engine has been put in a video game. This leads to crazy realistic looking water that actually flows around dynamically, different each time you play.

I only got to play the game for like an hour last night, so I can’t really give a great review, but here we go: it’s pretty cool. As a big Tomb Raider fan, it’s always fun to climb around and stuff like that in between Tomb Raider releases, and since the next Tomb Raider isn’t until next year, this will help tide me over. Also, the water is a lot more than just a cool tech demo, it really improves the game. It’s a lot of fun!
The game isn’t without its faults, though. The plot’s a little weak, and the voice acting is pretty bad. The protagonist is kind of a whiny lady who does whatever the man in her headset tells her to, which is lame. Sometimes too, the pathfinding is a little tough. At one point I had to climb up an elevator shaft and I died like 5 times in a row before I figured out I was supposed to exit the shaft via a door that was behind the camera. If you compare this game against other AAA titles like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia, it just doesn’t stack up.
However, it’s not in the same category, it’s an indie game – and one of the better indie games I’ve played. At 10-15 dollars, it’s a pretty good deal. A lot of fun and some cool new water mechanics for not very much money.
Here’s the thing though, while at 12 bucks, its probably worth your time, at THREE DOLLARS it definitely is. And it’s currently on sale at Steam for exactly that price!

If you want the game, be sure to hurry, because the deal is only available until 10AM today, so you have roughly 100 minutes to take advantage of it! Too slow! If you failed to buy it immediately after I wrote this post the price has gone up… to $4.08, which is still a pretty great price.
Coming soon: a game about pizza!
